The whole point is that there is no permenent winner unless everyone eventually bleeds out and the last person to post wins.

BUT IN THEORY its never supposed to end.

In theory, this thread will eventually reach some sort of software limitation and the last one to post before that wins forever. That will take a while, though.

What's wrong with zillions of smileys? The browser only has to download each one once, and it should be able to handle rendering a zillion of them, right? Maybe I'm just spoiled with Chrome running things so quickly....

I would have posted 71,136 question-mark smileys, but my browser could barely handle the preview, and I don't want anyone else to be forced to deal with that. Still, the smaller number of smileys in the previous page is quite reasonable as far as my system's performance is concerned. If you're worried about bandwidth, the forum software should be using GZip compression when sending stuff, so it won't be that much of a problem.
